Verkefnislýsing:
The project aims to familiarise students with environmental and cultural aspects of the area surrounding their schools as well as their partners’ schools. More specifically, the project is primarily focused on the following areas: - Forest (importance of the forest, destruction of local ecosystems) - Birds (birdwatching, endangered species) - Plants - Water (sea, rivers, lakes, wetlands) - Environmental issues which have sparked controversy in our area (e.g. controversy over the construction of a sports centre in our area as wetlands have been remodeled for this purpose) - Culture-history-archaeology
Language: English
Themes: Environment,Foreign Languages
Tools: E-mail
Age range: 13 to 16
Duration: A school year
Aims: The project is a joint attempt to raise students’ environmental awareness through curricular, cross-curricular and extra-curricular activities (e.g. interviews of people from the local community and/or experts). The project allows both pupils and teachers to learn about and compare different areas in Europe. It also aims to promote communication among students of different European countries in English and to foster a positive emotional attitude towards other European citizens. Furthermore, it seeks to encourage the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Expected Outcomes: A presentation of the members of the group and of the activities which will take place as part of the phase of the project.
Procedural Plan: 1st step: Students are asked to solve a puzzle which will introduce them to the first topic, namely the forest. 2nd step: Students decide what preparatory steps need to be taken so that they present a forest of their area to their partners. Then they introduce themselves to their partners and present their ideas about how they are going to work on the first topic, namely “a forest in my area” (curricular, cross-curricular and extra-curricular activities are described so that partners exchange interesting ideas).
